Inspector Bill Knopp Police Update

EAVA FM’s weekly police update on 24th January was done by Inspector Bill Knopp from Spinney Hill Park Police Station.

At the start of the interview Inspector Bill Knopp wanted to send a get well message to his colleague, Inspector Rick Basra who has Leukaemia. There were a series of events that took place where people could be tested to see if they were a match for a bone morrow transplant, they eventually found a match in Germany, where inspector Rick Basra as had the transplant and is resting at home.

These events helped to raise awareness in the South Asian community and all of us here at EAVA FM would like to say a big get well soon.



The latest news from the Police is that crime in Leicestershire area has fallen by 11.2%, with reduction in Burglary down by 16.2%. Saying that there was a string of burglaries within one night on the same road and some of the belongings stolen were jewellery, cash and electronics. Below are some tips on how you can keep your belongings safe:

Jewellery – Keep Asian gold in a safe secure place like the jewellers or a bank. Also keep photographs and remember marks or distinguishing features so that the police can tell whether the item is yours or not.

Cash – Don’t keep large amounts of cash at home or on your person.

Electronics – If you go on to Google and type in Emobilise it will take you to the website you need where you can register your items so if they do go missing the police can look on there.

More news, two men have been charged with the murder as part of the investigation into the death of Mr Dogan. His body was found in his flat above Alladin Pizza in Linton Street on Sunday 8th January. A 31 year old man and a 27 year old man were arrested in connection with the incident and have since been charged with murder.

A youth has been charged and three bailed following city taxi driver robberies. The first incident happened on Sunday 15th January, when a taxi driver was robbed of his belongings and car by a group of four men in Thurcaston Road. The men were described as using two guns to threaten the victim but thankfully he wasn’t injured. One of the guns believed to have been involved in the incident was recovered shortly after the incident and the second gun has since been recovered from the Leicester area.

The second incident happened in Trent Avenue on the evening of Monday 16th January, when a second taxi driver was robbed of his belongings and car by a group of three men. The victim was threatened with knives but was not injured. Both cars have now been recovered. Three youths, two aged 16 and one aged 17 were arrested and have since been released on police bail. A fourth youth aged 17 has been charged with two counts of robbery, carrying an offensive weapon and being in possession of a firearm.

Taxi drivers be aware of your surroundings, be careful, don’t take anyone that you don’t feel safe with and if anything does happen call 999 straight away.
